Circle/Out,C,In,C

Circle Between Two Circles (Out/In)

Creates a circle of specified radius externally tangent to one circle and internally tangent to another. XL/XS/YL/YS and OUT/IN selectors specify the solution.

What It Does

The Circle/Out,C,In,C operator creates a circle of specified radius that is externally tangent to one reference circle and internally tangent to another. The C1 OUT/IN and C2 OUT/IN selectors specify the tangency type for each circle. The X/Y selector picks the position.

Syntax

Circle/Out,C,In,C, C0, C2, R

Quick Input

C: 0 C2: 1 R: 5 C1: OUT IN C2: OUT IN X: XL XS Y: YL YS

Direction Selector

The C1 and C2 selectors specify whether the new circle is externally (OUT) or internally (IN) tangent to each reference circle. The X/Y selectors pick which of the resulting solutions to use based on centre position.

FieldOptionsMeaning
C1OUT / INExternal or internal tangency to first circle
C2OUT / INExternal or internal tangency to second circle
XXL / XSLargest or smallest X centre coordinate
YYL / YSLargest or smallest Y centre coordinate

Worked Examples

C: 0 C2: 1 R: 5 C1: OUT C2: IN X: XL Y: YL → Circle externally tangent to C0, internally tangent to C1 Centre at XLarge/YLarge position

Analytic Rule

Find circle of radius R with specified tangency to C and C2. C1/C2 OUT/IN selectors define tangency type. X/Y selectors pick solution position. Result: Exact analytic circle.

FAQ

What is the difference between OUT and IN tangency?

OUT (external) tangency means the new circle sits outside the reference circle touching it at one point. IN (internal) tangency means the new circle encloses the reference circle touching it internally.
