Trim/Circle/C0/To/C1

Trim Circle to Circle

Trims a circle to its intersection with another circle. CW/CCW selector specifies which arc segment to keep.

What It Does

The Trim/Circle/C0/To/C1 operator trims circle C0 at its intersection points with circle C1. The two intersection points become the arc endpoints. The CW/CCW selector specifies which of the two resulting arc segments of C0 to keep.

Intersection required: The two circles must intersect at two points. If they do not intersect, no trim is performed.

Syntax

Trim/Circle, C0, To, C1, CW|CCW

Quick Input

C: 0 C2: 1 Dir: CW CCW

Direction Selector

SelectorResult
CWKeeps the clockwise arc segment of C0 between the two intersection points
CCWKeeps the counter-clockwise arc segment of C0 between the two intersection points

Worked Examples

Setup: C0 = Circle centre (0,0), r=30 C1 = Circle centre (30,0), r=30 Intersection points: (15, 25.98) and (15, -25.98) // Keep upper arc (CCW) C: 0 C1: 1 Dir: CCW → A0: arc of C0 from (15,-25.98) to (15,25.98) CCW (the left-side arc of C0) // Keep lower arc (CW) C: 0 C1: 1 Dir: CW → A1: arc of C0 from (15,25.98) to (15,-25.98) CW (the right-side arc of C0)

Analytic Rule

Compute intersection points of C0 and C1. Two intersection points P0 and P1 are found. C0 is trimmed to the arc between P0 and P1. CW/CCW selects which arc segment to keep. Result: Exact analytic arc from circle C0.

FAQ

Do both circles need to intersect?

Yes. The two circles must intersect at two points. XyzPilot computes the intersection points and trims C0 to the arc between them. If the circles do not intersect, no trim is performed.

What does CW/CCW control?

CW/CCW specifies which of the two arc segments of C0 to keep after trimming. CW keeps the clockwise arc between the intersection points. CCW keeps the counter-clockwise arc.

Which circle gets trimmed?

Only C0 (the first circle) is trimmed. C1 is the reference boundary and is not modified.
