Extend/Trim/Line/ΔL
Extend or Trim Line by Delta Length
Extends or trims a line endpoint by a fixed delta length. Positive delta extends; negative delta trims. Start/End selector specifies which endpoint.
What It Does
The Extend/Trim/Line/ΔL operator moves a line endpoint by a specified delta length along the line direction. A positive delta extends the line; a negative delta trims it.
Syntax
Extend/Trim/Line, L0, DeltaL, Start|End
Quick Input
L: 0
ΔL: 1.0
End: Start End
Direction Selector
| Delta | Result |
|---|---|
| Positive (+) | Line is extended by DeltaL in the endpoint direction |
| Negative (−) | Line is trimmed by |DeltaL| from the selected endpoint |
Worked Examples
Setup:
L0 = Horizontal line from (0,0) to (100,0)
Extend/Trim/Line, L0, DeltaL=+30, End
→ L0: from (0,0) to (130,0) [extended 30mm at end]
Extend/Trim/Line, L0, DeltaL=-20, End
→ L0: from (0,0) to (80,0) [trimmed 20mm from end]
Extend/Trim/Line, L0, DeltaL=+15, Start
→ L0: from (-15,0) to (100,0) [extended 15mm at start]
Analytic Rule
Line direction vector: (dx, dy) = normalised direction from start to end
For End extension:
new_end = old_end + DeltaL * direction
For Start extension:
new_start = old_start - DeltaL * direction
Positive DeltaL: endpoint moves outward (extension)
Negative DeltaL: endpoint moves inward (trim)
Result: Exact analytic endpoint modification.
FAQ
What if DeltaL is larger than the line length for a trim?
If the trim amount exceeds the line length, the line would have zero or negative length. XyzPilot returns an error.
Can I use this with an angled line?
Yes. The delta is applied along the line direction regardless of angle.
